When hearing your text helps
Reading something aloud catches what your eyes skim over — a dropped word, a clumsy sentence, a name you're unsure how to say. A text-to-speech reader is handy for proofreading a draft, making an article accessible, learning pronunciation in another language, or simply resting your eyes during a long read. Adjust the rate and pitch live, and pause, resume or stop at any point.
It uses your device's own voices
This reader drives the Web Speech API — the speech engine already built into your browser and operating system — so it sends nothing to a server and adds no tracking; your words are spoken on your own device. The trade-off is that the available voices come from your platform, not from us: Chrome, Edge, Safari, macOS, Windows and Android each ship a different set, which is why the same text can sound different on two machines.
Picking a natural-sounding voice
Voice quality varies enormously. Older on-device engines sound robotic, so the picker hides the worst of them by default, groups the rest into Natural, Enhanced and Standard tiers, and preselects the best match for your language — network-backed and “neural” voices score highest. If you want the full list anyway, tick “Show all voices.” For the most lifelike results, install premium system voices (macOS/iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content; Windows: Settings → Time & language → Speech) and they'll appear here automatically.
Why there's no MP3 download
Browsers expose synthesised speech for live playback but not as a saved file, so there's no “download MP3” button here — the audio is generated on the fly and never stored. For privacy that's a feature rather than a limitation: nothing you paste is recorded or uploaded.
